Testing, testing, can you see me now?

A new design is up. Cleaner, easier on the eyes, and hopefully not ugly. Please check it out (refresh a couple times to get all the new styling) and tell me what you think. Also, post bug reports here.
To do: style resources page and user comments, and de-uglify anything that is still ugly. Also, move this site to Media Temple because Dreamhost is lame.

Not bad, but I liked your last design better. The faded navigation tabs, in particular, look odd to me, perhaps because their edges end before the search/email forms immediately underneath. The title image, too, appears pixelated on my LCD monitor.

Wow, you might be the first person to say that you like the previous design better. I liked it too, but too many people complained about it.
I’m going to work on the images on this design some more to see if I can clean them up, and I’ll see where else I can enhance things to pull it all together. I’ve been throwing this design together between trying to enjoy myself in Germany so some things were a little rushed.

This design is much better in my opinion. It doesn’t quite all “flow” together graphically, but I think it’s much improved.
My main comment though, is that I highly recommend Media Temple’s hosting. They’re hosting most of my sites and I’ve been extremely impressed.

‘It doesn’t quite all “flow” together graphically’
Yes, well, being that I’m not a designer, I must admit… I’m really bad at this. I don’t even do mockups, so I put little pieces together as I go. I’m trying to fix things here and there to see if I can make it all fit, but chances are it will still be a little funky in the end.
And right now, I promise, I’m going to apply
font-family:inheritto the textareas. Courier is really ugly.Comment by C Montoya — July 25, 2006 @ 1:26 pm
Ironic, we just made the switch to them over the weekend from Dreamhost too - I had monthly drops in service, and the last 2 weeks had been up and down to our annoyance. So far, so good.

Nice theme Christian

I look the new look and feel. I think it’s a little easier on the eye and easier to read. The only thing I would change is adjusting the comment section. Maybe, make the font size smaller and maybe a lighter gray, where it differentiates itself from the rest of the post. That would be the only change, I would make. Overall, I think Christian did a great job with the new look. I hope that is helpful.

Sorry… in the last post, correction: “I like the new look and feel.”

Much prefer the old site. I think for a gallery based site, 3 quarters of the home page should have nice big thumbnails, you have the thumbnails but I would 2/3 additional columns of thumbnails. For me it doesn’t come together too well, which I think others have mentioned. It has some good elements, like the typo.

Lee: it is actually my intention to take some of the focus away from the gallery since this is not just a gallery site. Galleries are a dime a dozen nowadays and while I can update the gallery quite often, I would like to shift more attention to the news and the resources. I hope that this new design does more to that respect; if so, it would be an improvement.
As for bringing the look together, I need suggestions. I don’t have the design eye to see it myself, and I won’t be able to talk to my design associate for a while. When I do talk to her, she’ll probably hit me over the head for being so daft and fix all the issues here.

I love your site (and liquid layouts generally), but I think of
http://thepiratebay.org/
every time I look at the masthead.

ditto the pirate bay………
I kind of liked the previous design a bit more than this, but maybe it will grow on me.
